Three rules for picking a room
- Match the room to the ask. A first coffee with a potential client belongs somewhere calm and easy to leave. A pitch belongs where you can open a laptop without apologising. A dinner where you want people to talk belongs in a private room, not a loud restaurant.
- Hotel lounges beat cafes for anything over 45 minutes. Nobody hovers for your table, the chairs are comfortable, and the bill is still a coffee.
- Book for breakfast, walk in for mid-afternoon. Most grand cafes and hotel lounges are busiest 8 to 10am and 12 to 2pm. Between 2:30 and 5 you can usually sit anywhere.
